Fredericksburg is a wonderful city known for its strong German heritage, award-winning wineries, and amazing scenic views. Located in the heart of Texas Hill Country in Gillespie County, Fredericksburg is in a great location just 70 miles from San Antonio and 75 miles from Austin.

Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 by German immigrants under the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas. John O. Meusebach named the settlement Friedrichsburg, later changed to Fredericksburg, to honor Prince Frederick of Prussia.

Well-known for its fantastic wineries, Fredericksburg has over 60 wineries, vineyards, and wine-tasting rooms, with 30 wine tour companies. Explore Fredericksburg’s Urban Wine Trail, which includes ten downtown wineries and wine-tasting rooms within walking distance of historic hotspots and many hotels.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is one of the most popular places to see for nature lovers in Fredericksburg. Named after the massive pink granite rock at the center, Enchanted Rock offers over 11 miles of hiking trails, camping, cave exploration, and stunning views at every turn. Due to its limestone bluffs and hidden springs, Fredericksburg is the perfect home for over 5,000 wildflower species, drawing many visitors to the area in the spring.

Fredericksburg is also full of rich history, with many museums and historical parks to explore. The Pioneer Museum tells the story of the first immigrants and includes buildings and artifacts. The National Museum of the Pacific War is dedicated to all who served in the Pacific War and includes galleries for Chester W. Nimitz and George H.W. Bush, a Plaza of Presidents, and a Japanese Garden of Peace. Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President, was born in Gillespie County, so the city is also the home of the Lyndon B.
