Located in Kendall County in Hill Country, Comfort is an unincorporated community between Boerne and Kerrville. Comfort is a close-knit town with a population of around 3,000 people and lots of rich history. Comfort is a true gem in the heart of Texas Hill Country and only 30 minutes from San Antonio, giving you the best of both worlds!
Established in 1854, Comfort was named after the German word for “comfortable” due to the warm hospitality of the early settlers. Residents of the community are friendly, inviting, and proud of their town’s rich history.
Comfort features around 100 historic buildings dating back to the 19th century, so most of the city is designated a National Historic District. Explore its fascinating history by following the 26 historical markers around the city, including the Treue der Union Monument, the oldest Civil War Monument in Texas, created in 1866.
In addition to its history and inviting atmosphere, Comfort is also known for its fantastic food and drinks. Start your day off right with a delicious coffee or tea and a blueberry lemon scone at Wander’n Calf Espresso Bar and Bakery. Comfort offers a variety of restaurants, ranging from cafes to upscale restaurants; it’s impossible not to find something that will hit everyone’s taste buds! And, of course, it wouldn’t be Hill Country if you couldn’t enjoy wine! Comfort has many vineyards and wine-tasting rooms, including one of our favorites, Singing Water Vineyards!
Take a stroll around downtown and stop at any of the many amazing shops! The Peachy Llama, one of their newest shops, offers personalized tumblers and cutting & charcuterie boards. Plant lovers will love Garden Haus, which covers all your plant and garden needs! Looking for antiques? No problem! You never know what one-of-a-kind finds you’ll see at Debzee’s Vintage and Hens and Heifers!
One of the biggest things Hill Country is known for is its beautiful scenery and fantastic sights, and Comfort has no shortage of that! Take a scenic stroll along Joshua Springs Park and Preserve or hike in Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area with views of the Guadalupe River. If you’re looking for something more adventurous, Flat Rock Ranch has some of the best mountain bike trails in Texas, or you can visit Old Tunnel State Park, home to around 3 million bats from May – October.
